RIHANNA

Sandy Relief/Album Listening Party

Those of you who know me, know I'm a HUGE Rihanna fan. Well on Nov. 9th my dreams came true. I landed the opportunity to go to Rihanna's Listening party for her new Album titled "Unapologetic", to be released on Nov. 19th. This day was filled with excitement. The anticipation of possibly meeting her, built up to the extreme by the time I left from work to head over to 40/40 night club.

So we're in after standing in line...in the freezing cold for at least two hours for me, more for some. Was it worth it, you ask? But of course. By the end of the night I was in love with her new album (in which I feel is mostly about Chris Brown) that I can so relate to. I haven't selected my favorite song yet, but "Nobody's Business" feat. Chris Brown is one to look out for ;-).

As Ms. Robin herself (aka Rihanna) entered the 40/40 club, she was rushed by anxiously awaiting fans, such as, myself. I was able to view hugs, to grabs, to gifts being given. I didn't want to be rude and reach out and grab her so I just went back to my previous location and cried like a wuss. Everything was happening so fast and seemed so surreal. I mean I've been literally dreaming about meeting her and trying to get a picture taken with her. So to see the dream come to life...yes I got a little emotional, but I can guarantee I'm 'Unapologetic' for it :-).

I watched from a far. I observed her outfit, her demeanor, and even her stare. Her eyes are gorgeous and express every thought that's going on in her mind. That's one girl who's eyes don't lie. I saw a room filled with excitement as she danced a little and sang a little. And then disappeared into a private room, leaving us fan to wonder if she had left or not. I wondered, but I was hopeful that I would meet her that night so I didn't leave. and then out of no where (almost an hour later) she appeared. She was was getting ready to leave. I saw my opportunity to meet her. I planned it out in my head. I even got up enough courage to ask her friend (in which I observed speaking with RiRi frequently) if she could help me just meet her please, but she said she couldn't. I then saw that most of the crowd was opposite of where I was standing and so security covered that side more, leaving me open and free to yell "RIHANNA", as she then turned and saw my hand out to shake hers. She reached, she shook, and I felt like I conquered the world that very moment. She walked past me and shook my friend's hand as well...and out of nowhere she looks and she says...and I quote "Y'all look DOPE". I could have fell out that very moment. To receive such a compliment from my fashion Idol has left me speechless through today. I've since been told that I have arrived in life after receiving such a compliment from someone so dear to the fashion world.

Well below I am posting the first pic of me waiting in line and a second pic of what I wore and lastly a a video showing me being interviewed by Daily News. Shout out to Daily News for helping my dream come true. This day is one I'll never forget. There were many good causes to take place that day. One, I was able to assist in the Sandy relief by making a donation and secondly I met my favorite girl, Rihanna.

Nike Letterman...Let Him In

Men's Fashion

Finally a post for the men. I like men's fashion, but I don't love it like I love women's fashion (leading me to post rarely about men). I'm just being honest. Anyway, back to this post. I have here a Nike Letterman's jacket. Wish I knew more about this jacket/coat...which ever you choose to call it...but I don't. All I know is Nike to men is like Apple to the world. They just can't live without it. The pic below is of a Brooklyn Knight wearing a 'Destroyers' Nike Letterman jacket...yes these things have names. Tell me your opinions on this look.

Sandy is here, near, or something like that

Sandy the Hurricane

Hi Sandy my name is Alita aka FashionGuru and instead of me owning this playground today, it looks like you have taken over. I woke up to text messages, voice mails, and phone calls all about Sandy. I turned on the tv and who did I see...none other than Sandy. Sandy has taken the fashion scene by storm...lol...I just wanted to throw that line in there for no particular reason. I don't have much to say except for I'm stuck indoors and bored out of my mind. Here's some images I've come across since Sandy's existence. First picture I took myself and the second is floating all over the web.

Random Post

This is not fashion related...I repeat...this is not fashion related

So this morning I'm on the web and I ran across this picture below. All I could do was smile. If any of you are like me and was born and raised in the 80's then you'll know why. I used to watch Bob Ross paint as a child. He gave me an appreciation for the arts, from young. Well technically my dad started me coloring and tracing, but you get what I'm saying. Anyway, Happy 70th Bob Ross.

Natural Beauty

Chrisette Michele

Good morning and good day world. I came across this picture of this 'Natural Beauty', Chrisette Michele. I am in love with her hair, makeup, and those shades (that are to die for). She took the box to a whole other level. I love this new look she has and look forward to watching more of her looks as she continues to grow as an artist and an individual. Tell me what you think of her new look. Do you like her now or back then?

I also added the pic below just to show how versatile she is. A simple change of the eyeglasses and make up and she has a totally different look.

Kid N Plaid

So the last time I went to church...two Sundays ago (bet you thought it was going to be long ago), I decided I wanted to wear my new shoes. Ok...rewind...I became a fan of Jeffry Campbell about a year ago. I loved his shoes but of course I couldn't stand his prices. I had my eyes on a particular pair that reminded me of my favorite childhood shoes called Buster Brown. I finally found them on sale (price will be my little secret) for an unbelievable amount and of course I had to have them. Tell me what you think of me mixing the old with the new. The plaid top is by Liz Claiborne, shirt by ZARA and pants from Urban outfitters. I will give you a total price of the complete outfit, but to let it be known, the ZARA top was most expensive item. Total price for this look, $118

HMMMM...AM I READY TO GIVE AWAY SOME OF MY THRIFTING TIPS???

I'm A Thrift Whore

I'm a thrift whore, are you? I will eventually start to post some pics of outfits that are under $100 and when I say under $100 I mean more like $40 for complete looks. But, until then I guess I'll just say that I'm not ready to give away that information, yet stay tuned...

Guess What I Found...

OK I'M SUPER EXCITED ABOUT...DRUM ROLLLL...

It's not really much. Actually it's kinda simple, but I ran across this pic today and well it gave me some excitement so I decided to share it with you guys...all zero of my current followers (insert smile here). Anyway, I wish I knew who the model was and what she's wearing (dress wise and necklace), but unfortunately if you want to know, you'll just have to do your own research. I'm actually not getting paid for this blog so guess what...you get what you pay for. Here she is...the beautiful...??? Wearing...???

Rain Rain Go Away

RAIN BOOTS

So it decides to rain today, yikes!!! However, be prepared for it. New York City seems to love the rain. Everyone's going through their shoes to select their favorite rain boots right now. Here's a pair that I love (but don't own). I'm not a fan of rain boots. I tend to trip a lot when walking/running in them. Don't judge me.

Boots by Marc Jacobs

A look you should adore,or not??? You tell me

'DRESS'  TO IMPRESS:

So this fall season ZARA has an army green jacket with leather sleeves that you 'll see all throughout New York City. You can throw this jacket on to complete any look. Here I've added it to a royal blue dress from H&M, to dress this look down a bit. I didn't want to be too dressy for the occasion.

I'm sure you want to know a little bit about me, right?
